Spring Summer 2023 ‘Unbroken’ Runway

October 31, 2022

The popular vernacular saying “at all at all na him bad pass” has become a daily mantra for the average Nigerian. For this season, Kwelaku seeks to celebrate the resilience of the African people in general.

Unscathed by the ills of the society we live in; circumstances that exist to break the average human being, end up shaping us up. We would always find a way to ‘patch up’, making life as beautifully imperfect as a work of art.

Visions of abstract paint splatter and broken geometries in fluid and feminine silhouettes unfold across the Kwelaku Spring/Summer 2023 collection as a way of illustrating the beautiful imperfection that is comparable to life in my birth country, Nigeria.

Hand-dyed Kwelaku custom prints adequately capture the brand’s Tribal-Chic aesthetic and further highlight the house’s journey to impact Community positively through sustainable Collaborations that showcase African Culture & Craftsmanship. We partnered once more with our amazing local textile designers in Abeokuta, Western Nigeria to bring Kwelaku SS23 indigo and batik to life.

Iridescent solids, spirit-uplifting hues, and embellishments that elevate the brand’s signature silhouettes also take center stage this season and emphasize the overall mood of this collection.

We’ve not exactly been handed sweet oranges in this life, but if there’s one thing we do best on this side of the world, it’s making lemonade out of the numerous lemons life throws at us. At the end of the day, “at all at all na him bad pass”.
